PrEP: Preventing HIV Before Exposure

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine taken by people who do not have HIV but are at higher risk of getting it. Taken as prescribed, it greatly lowers the chance of getting HIV.

PrEP does not protect against other STIs or pregnancy, so condoms still matter.
